The Nelson Town Band has been instrumental (pun intended) in carrying on the tradition of a local town band. We play on town commons, church lawns, and parades throughout the Monadnock Region of southern New Hampshire, with occasional forays into Vermont. The season starts in Nelson with a Memorial Day concert, parade around the common, and a trip up the hill to the cemetery. The performance schedule becomes more vigorous as the summer goes on. We enjoy playing at the Maplewood community for elder folks, the ice cream socials on the Nelson Congregation Church lawn in July and early September, and the parades for the many old home day celebrations and other local events. In December, we put on a special holiday concert in the Nelson Town Hall.
The band is made up of players of all ages from the town of Nelson, NH and surrounding towns. Playing in the Nelson Town Band is a lot of fun, and you can be part of it! Perhaps you played the trombone in high school and have had your instrument in the closet for 20 years. Or perhaps you’ve kept up your chops but your looking for new playing opportunities. Many of our members are middle or high school students, who enjoy the satisfaction of a regular concert schedule, and the fun of parades. Whatever your story, we hope you’ll join us. There are no auditions – everyone is welcome, and you’ll quickly find yourself among new friends (or maybe folks you already know).
The band rehearses most Sunday afternoons from 4:30 – 6:00, in the basement of the Nelson Congregational Church. For more information, call Donna Morse at 603-352-9694.
